Tempting Tangrams

In Te Ngahere I have been learning how to make Tempting Tangram. We were given two sheets with the Instructions and the other for the activity. Using the instructions sheet, we were able to create a parallelogram using all our shapes from the other paper that we cut out. After following the steps (which was hard), we couldn’t overlap or cut the shapes into another shape to make the parallelogram. We had to use the shapes and combined them together to create the parallelogram was is challenging and fun for my group. I got excited when I first made the parallelogram.

Camp

Last Monday the Year 7 & 8’s went to Wellington for camp. The reason why we went on a camp together is because we wanted to make memories before the year 8’s head off. We stayed at Te Herenga Waka marae for a full week. Every morning and night we had amazing meals that were cooked for us. They also made lunches for us to take out for the day when we went out exploring. Every day was action packed and we travelled to lots of interesting places. The presentation will explain what we did throughout the week.

presentation will be uploaded soon

Tuia 250

Last week on Saturday my family and I went to Tuia 250 in Whangarei. Tuia 250 is when ships and waka come in like Ngahiraka Mai Tawhiti, Faafiti, Endeavor, The R.Tucker Thompson, Haunui and the Spirit of New Zealand. When the ships and waka come in we then had a powhiri. After that we had a kai and then had free time. In my free time I watched a band with my friends called Missy, Zhynaliyah and Miki. Then we went to go learn how to navigate with a group called Ngahiraka Mai Tawhiti, It was so fun because we had to lay down and look at the stars.

My Holiday

On Wednesday the 10th of October my family and I went on a holiday to Australia. In Australia we had a lot planned for our two weeks but there was one fun day that I liked. On Saturday we went to this place called Jamberoo which is an adventure swimming park. Jamberoo has a lot of swimming activities to do like the Wave Pool Beach, Rock Pool Bombing Place, Water Park, Surf Hill, Splash Out and my favourite of all was the Perfect Storm. The Perfect Storm is a big slide that you can go down with your family in a yellow donut. In The Perfect Storm the light flickers on and off. The light is black and white so it looks like you’re in a thunderstorm.

Kaikohekohe Cultural festival

Last week on Thursday The kapa haka roopu went to the Kaikohe Memorial Hall to perform a kapa haka bracket for the Kaikohekohe Cultural festival. Before we were performing I was a bit nervous to stand in front of heaps of people as well as being excited perform. I enjoyed standing on the stage while we were performing doing our bracket once we were on stage. When I came off the stage I felt proud of myself because I knew that I gave it my all. After I performed I thought that I need to learn to smile more with my teeth. I have done 3 performances representing Paihia School and I really can’t wait for the next cultural festival.

Beach Clean Up

Last Friday Te Ngahere went to the beach in Paihia for a clean up. As we got to the beach we tidied up the end by Alfrescos and started to go up the sand as we picked up rubbish. I felt worried because there was a lot of rubbish that can kill our beautiful sea animals. When we got to school I learnt that people can be lazy and drop their smoke butts on the ground and throw beer bottles in te ngahere/ the bush. When we got back to school we discussed how we can solve this problem. One of my ideas to solve this problem is put the price up so people can’t afford to buy smokes and beers. Be a kiwi and keep NZ clean.

Number problems

In Te Ngahere we have been practising how to do word problems in maths. We were trying to change word problems into number problems because we're really good at number problems, like 112 - 72. I really enjoy doing this in class because maths is my favorite subject and it feels great when I get it correct after I was stuck ‘in the pit.’. What helped me get out of the pit was going to a workshop that made me understand if the question was addition or subtraction and to make it easier for me to answer.

Here a question with my working out.

Cross country

In week 6 Paihia School had cross country at Bledisloe Domain. We had a wonderful track that had a flat field and muddy hills. The little kids had to go first and the track got harder and harder as ages went up. What I liked doing at cross country was cheering people on. When it got to my race I ran with one of my friends because we wanted to help each other when it got hard. I felt happy that I came 3nd and enjoyed running, It was so much fun.

Te Reo Maori

On Monday in Te Ngahere we have been practicing Te reo. What I have been learning was how to ask a question saying homai te rapa or homai to rapa with cards. Homai te rapa means give me the rubber and homai to rapa means give me your rubber. When I learn Te Reo Maori I always learn the same words and those words I already know not need to learn so I can remember them.. Some of those words are tepu, pene hinu, rorohiko and karaka.

Sorry the animation isn't complet. I will update it when it's finish.

Te Reo Maori

In week 4 Te Ngahere have been learning about how to ask a question and answer a question in Te Reo Maori. One of the words I learnt was rapa which is a rubber and I found it hard because of the way I was pronouncing some of the words. When I finished learning about that my buddy Kaitlin and I made a slideshow asking each other a question and answering the question. We had to take photos of 10 items in the class room off the ipad. Then we had to add it to our slideshow and add speech bubbles asking and answering the question. After that we had to screencastify the slideshow while were talking over it.

Before Cross Country

This Friday week 6, all of Paihia School students are competing in the Paihia School cross country at Bledisloe Domain. We have been practicing most days at school on our field. I am so impressed with my time because last week on Monday my time was 13.55 and on Tuesday I got 13.40. I’m looking forward to this Friday and I can’t wait because I really like cross country.

Energise - Whaea Gina

On Week 5 Whaea Gina from project energise came to Paihia School. What I learnt was what foods are healthy and unhealthy. Their was 2 groups, one group was the healthy option and the second group was unhealthy. What we had to do was put the unhealthy foods underneath the subtitle unhealthy. We also had to do the same with the healthy food. After that we got into three groups and had a race. We had bags with photos of food and subtitles. So what we had to do was lay out the subtitles and photos on the ground and put the healthy foods underneath the subtitle. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait for our last lesson making hummus.

With Whaea Gina

Last Monday Te Ngahere went to the whare to learn about healthy food. I was learning what was the right category of food we need and don’t need in our body system. We had these paper signs that say vegetables, fruit, meat or meat alternatives, grains and wheat. What we had to match the fake food with the right category. I learned that you can get protein from meat and some vegetables products.

Science Fair

Last term in week 7 Te Ngahere have been learning all about science. My buddy and I’s question for science is does warm cheese rot faster than cold cheese? We chose this question because my brother leaves the cheese out for 1 hour until he comes out of his room and I’m trying to tell him that, that's disgusting. We are going to test the cheese with a petri dish. The reason why we have been doing science is because its science fair next week.

Cross Country Training

At Paihia School Te Ngahere have been training for cross country. I have been learning to make a line graph using my time. Last week Te Ngahere was running 2 laps around the field, pump track and court. On Monday my first time I got was 6 minutes and 26 seconds, on Wednesday I got 6.38 witch was not good but the next day my time was 5.52 and on Friday I got 5.37. I think running everyday is good because my time is getting better and better.

My Graph is not finish but here it is.

Scientific Method

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about the scientific method. A scientific method is a method that scientist uses to test things The scientific method has 6 steps. The first step was to ask yourself a question, then gather information for you to research. Next is step 3, to make a hypothesis ( and guess the answer), step 4, test your hypothesis. Step 5, analyze your test results and last of all step 6, present a conclusion. We are learning about the scientific method because we are doing a new challenge about scientist. What I think I did well was understand words that I didn’t know in a article. What I enjoyed was making a infographic to explain the steps with photos.

Here’s my infographic.

Quick Rip

Yesterday in Kerikeri the year 7&8’s went to play quick rip at the rugby field. What I need to improve on Is to tell my team to spread out and to remember to work as a team. I think we need 2 weeks of practice because my team only had 2 days of practices. We did good for only 2 days of practice. What I enjoyed was getting the ball so I can score a try. What I disliked was seeing my team arguing with one another because we weren’t listening. We played 3 teams, the first team we played was called Kerikeri 2 the second team we played was Rawene and the last team was TKKM Kaikohe. Hopeful we get another chance at going to another tournament.

Technology

Yesterday the year 7&8’s went to technology at Moerewa School. I learned how to make a apple crumble an a cottage pie. What I did well is working as a team with my buddy Emma. I enjoyed eating the cottage pie when it was finished because the smell was nice and it was lunch time. What I could do better next time is to add more vegetables in to what i’m making in week 8. I think making the cottage pie was the hardest because we had to add more ingredients into it than the apple crumble. Aslo the apple crumble was the easiest because all I had to do is make the crumble and stew the apples.

Kapa haka

Last week the Kapa Haka roopu performed at Kawakawa School. It was cool watching other kapa haka groups perform because it made me entertained. After each Kapa Haka group performed there were amazing songs to dance to as we were waited for the other roopu to go on stage. We felt so happy after we performed on stage. We have another performance coming up in Kaikohe, so hopefully we will enjoy ourselves like last week.

Pracicte

Since Last week the kapa haka group has been training to go to the Kawakawa cultural festival. We have been training every lunch and morning tea. We have been learning to emphasize our words and use facials. The whole group has been practicing a new haka for our performance this Friday. I can’t wait till this Friday because I know I’m going to have a good day.

Marble Challenge

Last week in Te Ngahere I have been learning about variables. In Te Ngahere we had to create a marble ramp to give to another group to test. What I did well is working well with my buddy and listening to what she was saying. What I enjoyed was test day because I was so hyped up when the marble went 110cm. If your marble went 110cm you would get 5 points which was the most to get. When my buddy and I were creating our ramp our goal was to make our marble roll 110cm. If you didn’t know what a variable is it means when you change something to alter your results.

Tai Tokerau

On a sunny school day 7 special students from Kapa Haka roopu got picked to go to Tai Tokerau at Whangarei Girls High School. When I watched a few groups perform I learnt that I should use facials more when I perform or even when i’m practicing. What I did well in the hall was being a good audience, listening and not chatting to the people next to me. What I liked was seeing everybody having fun and what I like about the groups that perform was their good acting, discipline, facials and enjoying them self.

Spelling

In Te Ngahere I have been learning my spelling words. What I did well based on my spelling is rewriting the spelling words I was practicing. What I enjoy is getting them right because it makes me happy. What I could do better is working harder on the words I need to learn. The reason why we were learning our spelling is because we finished our basic facts and we need to move on and learn more.

Problem Sloving

On Monday Te Ngahere was learning how to solve problems about Anzac Biscuits. What I think I did well is repeating the same thing that my group said to me so I understand what they did. What I enjoyed was making a DLO at the end of the problem solving. What I could do better next time is remember to always collaborate.

Math DLO

Last week in Te Ngahere we have been learning about doubling and halving also tripling and thirding. After we practices doubling and halving we had to make a math DLO. What I think I did well is that I’m nearly finished my DLO slideshow and what I enjoyed was creating how to work out the answer and showing what strategy I used. What I think could do better is finish my DLO in time.

Wings

Last week in writing Te Ngahere we have been learning about how to use words that paint a picture in the reader's mind. What Te Ngahere had to do was pick a part in this video and write about it by using powerful words to paint a image in the reader's mind. What I think I did well in my writing was using powerful words, and what I enjoyed was re reading my writing because it was cool and I liked the words that I put in my writing like puny boy. What I think I could do better is adding a bit more detail in how they flow together.

My writing is not finished

Technology

In Te Ngahere the year 7 And 8’s went to technology at Moerewa School. The year 8’s were cooking with Whaea Dot and the year 7’s were learning woodwork with Mr E. The first thing I learnt with Mr E was all the rules and how to keep safe. I enjoyed doing woodwork because it was our first time doing technology. We got to have a play around and make anything we wanted to make. I made a Māori design.

Kindness

Yesterday in Te Ngahere we were learning about how to be kind to ourselves and others. Our main goal was to make people happy and have self care.  First we went on this site and found quotes about kindness. After we found a quote, my group and I had to explain what that quote means. When we finished doing that, the year 7 & 8’s got to choose in our groups if we want to go outside and write kind quotes to the whole school or make bookmarks, posters and other things. At lunch time we got to be in buddies for a challenge. The challenge was to wave and smile to everyone at school and make them happy and safe.
