100 Word Story

This is my second 100 word story
The day just started and the confusion had hit. My eyes stared at the board and aunty Falicia’s voice was buzzing around my head and through my ears. Words popped in my face one by one as Falicia spoke my name out. “Bob, Bob, Bob, Bob, BOB” said aunty Falicia. My head shocked and I sat there in silence for as long as it took. “I was still confused” “ I don't know what to do” said Bob. I replied yes Mrs but she just gave me the look. I stood up looked around and no one wanted to help me. Picture from Pobble 365 link on the photo

100 Word Story

In Te Ngahere some experts at blogging have another task to do than doing blogging. We had to choose a picture and describe that picture with 100 words like exact 100 words. Here is my 100 words that describes my picture at the bottom. In the middle of darkness a big red truck came rushing down the street. I walked past in silent and then through my arms up as the truck expanded over my bubble. The truck dashed past my face, all the mist splashed all over my body and down my throat “YUCKKKKKKK”. The heat shoot me to death, my legs dropped I dropped. My body ghosted down earth and flew above my bed. My eyes zipped open, all I saw was a white plan roof and heard heavy rain pour down past my window. It was all a dream, “uhh boring”.

Practicing Activities

For the past few weeks we have been practicing athletics. The athletics we have been doing I am really good at. We are doing high jump, long jump, shot pot, discus and sprints/relays because we will be competing against other schools in a few weeks. What is fun about this is being able to go outside and doing activities. What I did well is participate. What I could do better is make sure my whole group is giving it a try and having fun. I like highjump the best because I always jump high for my short height. We practise athletics every Thursday and Friday but if it rains we will be skipping that day because we wouldn’t want to get sick or get injured. Have you been practicing for athletics day?

Practicing A New Game

Last week after lunch time the year 8’s & 7’s went out together to play 4 games of Tee-ball with Whaea kasey. Once we got inside we got split into 2 groups, one group was batting and the other was the fielders. First round my group was the fielders which I didn’t stay on the field I went on base 1. Once everyone in the other group had a turn at batting it was swap over time which means my group was the batters next. I went third and I hit the ball soft so the ball wouldn’t go as far and that they had to ran closer. I also had time to run to base one. Once my teammates all had there turn we just keep swapping over until until we were ready to go back into our classroom. Tee-ball is honestly fun thanks to Whaea Kasey. Here's a picture of my classmate hitting the ball of the T

Te Huarere

In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to say a weather report in te reo maori. I got with a buddy to learn the weather report in te reo because it would be much more helpful. My buddy is Mihipeka and we already finished our slideshow to screencastify so we can share to you that we learnt how to say a weather report in te reo. We first wrote a script to say the weather so we know what we will be saying while screencatifying. Our amazing teacher Whaea Chrissy already wrote a script for us but Mihipeka & I changed it around by changing the places and the weather. I think Mihipeka & I did well because we completed our scripted second which means we used our team work and communicated well. What's the weather by you now? Here's our screencastify

Bay Of Islands College

Yesterday the year 8’s had a choice to catch the Bay bus or get dropped off to Bay Of Islands College. I caught the bus with my sister, brother in law & first cousin Rymon because Rymon & I are year 8’s ready to go to orientation day. On the bus it wasn’t scary but it was loud. Once we got off the bus at Bay we had a tour around with my sister, brother in law & some of my classmates so we know where to go once we go to the next class or hang out at play time. When the bell rang we went to the library first to have a talk with Mr Smith about what classes we have. After that we had metal & woodwork before morning tea. In metal work we got into groups of five to have a paper tower competition. After morning tea we had MPA, social studies, science & PE. Then we had lunch & play time. Once play time finished we ended off with doing art which was pretty fun. Then it was time to go home. Thank you Bay Of Island College for having us. Next year I am kind of excited to go to Bay, if I go. What college you going to next year.

My Holidays

For the last 2 weeks I went to Mangamuka & Mangataipa for 1 week, which is up north. We went up north because we wanted to go see our whanau we haven’t seen in a while. We first woke up, got ready & left the house. It took us about 45 mins to get to Mangataipa. Once we got there we drove up the hill to nans house because that's where we we’re staying for a few nights. I jumped out of the car, knocked on the door and gave nan a big hug because I haven’t seen her since 2 months ago which might not be long for you but that's 8 weeks. Dad & I grabbed all our bags, blankets, pillows and put them inside so we wouldn’t have to get them later on. A few hours later we walked down the hill and saw my cousins so I went to them & said hello. After that we walked around & got so hot so we went for a swim at the lagoon & did some mean maunus. I enjoyed getting out of the house & going on a family trip. How was your holidays?

Mahi Toi

Last week in Te Ngahere we started doing mahi toi. Mahi toi is art and the art we’re learning to do is to draw continuous lines, draw curves, rule straight lines and best of all blend colours. We have started to trace over a design as practise. I did a good job at tracing over the designs and lines, I need to work on making my lines straighter. Once I finished that practise sheet, I was then able to start practising using colors to blend. Here is a photo of my blending. Do you know how to blend?

Thank You Gustavo & Troy

Yesterday in Te Ngahere we have started to write a thank you letter to Gustavo and Troy for taking their time out and coming to join our class to teach us about how rockets are launched. We had to write what we enjoyed and also what we enjoyed in The Wonder Project. I enjoyed launching our rockets because it was so satisfying watching rockets fly up in the air. I also thanked them for being helpful, kind and patient especially when we would sometimes disrespect them. I also liked that they would always encourage us. I just wish they could come back into our class to teach us the next stage in The Wonder Project. Have you checked out my Wonder Project post? Here's my Thank you letter.

Pounamu Pendants

In Te Ngahere we have been learning to estimate using percentages. The activity we did was called Pounamu pendants in this activity we had to find out what was the percentage of the area of the original rectangle and what piece of the grid does the finished pendant use. There were four separate pendants where Mihi & I had to go through row by row to see how much area the pendants cover on the grid. For A we think the pendant was covering 57% of it. We worked this out by the number we got, divided it by 180 and then times it by 100. I think I did well at counting up all the numbers. This activity was really fun to do and learn here is a photo of my activity. What type of math do you enjoy doing?

I Wonder

Today was Gustavo and Troy’s last day which means it was the final day to launch our rockets see which team came first, second and third. Straight after morning tea everyone got out their rockets and headed to the deck and waited for their turn to launch. Mihipeka, Jorjah and I helped out Whaea Shanna to make her job easier. Mihis job was to get the next group to come up to get ready and write down how much water and air pressure they used. Jorjah’s job was to record every groups rocket when it launched and my job was to measure how far each groups rocket went. I did well at making Whaea Shanna’s job easier and it didn’t take long launching each groups rockets. After we finished launching everyone's rockets we went back into class and Mihi told everyone who came first second & third. The group who came first was Thea’s group, the group that came second was my group so we won a lollipop or chocolate and the last group who came third was Roberts group. I think I have done a great job in the Wonder Project and I have enjoyed every little bit of it thank you to Gustavo and Troy. Heres a picture of my group creating a parachute.

Something Special

On Monday in Te Ngahere we created something nice to share with our old teacher Whaea Becks. Whaea Becks has taught in Te Ngahere for 3 years but this year she left to travel. The most happy but sad thing is that next year she's coming back to teach at Paihia School again but I won’t be here, because this is my last year as I am a year 8. My friend Mihipeka and I made a video to send to Whaea becks to show that we have been missing her and wish her the best. If you see this Whaea Becks we Hope you are okay and we miss you alot, love from Anyah/your favourite

I Wonder

Today is Wednesday which means Troy will be coming into our classroom for Wonder Project. A couple of days ago my group and I were working on our rocket like hot gluing fins on and hot gluing the bottles together. Last week on Friday my group went out to launch our rocket but their was a problem. We didn’t get to fully launch our rocket because it had a leak in it so we didn’t launch it. On Monday we re started, we got two water bottles cut the top off one bottle and hot glued it on the bottom of the other water bottle. We then stuck the fins on and a printed face of my friend Mihi on it. So we basically changed our whole rocket just had the same design. Now we are ready to launch which happened today and our rocket went up into the air straight after blast off. Then it went straight at the end and landed on the ground which looked cool. Here is a video of us launching.

Explosive Wonder Project

In Te Ngahere last week a couple groups have already started building their rocket. In class yesterday my group & I started to build our rocket. In my group I have Mihi, Chum and Stilly to work with. We started yesterday because all the other days we forget to bring the equipment but if we brang it before we could had started last week or on that day. My group & I all got together on a table with all our equipment and started to cut the ice cream containers for our fins. We still need to complete our rocket before we start to test it and testing is today. So I reckon my group needs to get a move on and catch up with a few other groups. I think my group is going well because we all communicate but we just need to focus. If you had to opportunity to do the Wonder Project would you ? This is a little sneak peak of what our rocket will be like.

Respect The Rules

In Te Ngahere we have been working on Kawa Of Care which is about rules around your chromebook. I have been learning new ways of looking after my chromebook because once our 3 years of warranty is over we can’t get our chromebook fixed for free, so we have to start looking after our chromebooks before we break it. We all sat down on the ground and re winded our learning about our chromebooks. What we did was talk about how we break our chromebooks and how we can over learn those to look after our chromebooks. Once we finished we got to make a DLO showing what you do with your chromebook and what not to do. I went off with my book and started drawing with my pencil and then explained what my drawing was trying to explain. Have you learned about Kawa Of Care? Here is my DLO/drawing I did

Wonder Project

This week on Wednesday only Troy came to our school because Gustavo had to stay home & look after his wife. On Wednesday for the Wonder Project we all talked about thrust, weight and when a rocket drags. I learned that a rocket needs stability, thrust and drag to make it fly up in the air but when the thrust runs out the rocket goes down because of the weight and drag. Once we finished talking about that we all went out on the deck to watch a couple of people test the launcher and it worked. Then we all went back into class to work on an activity to create a rocket using shapes then add arrows facing the way it will go with thrust and without thrust. If we finished that we had a chance to start creating the look of our own rocket. Here is a picture of what I did for the activity. Have you done the Wonder project before?

Movie Making

In Te Ngahere we have been making a plan to create our own movie. We are making our own movies because there is going to be a movie night in KeriKeri but also our class are having our own private movie night but during class time. For this movie making I have been learning about different filming angles because we need to know what type of angles we will be using once we are filming. In class we had to get into our own groups and In my group I had Mihipeka, Jorjah, Nevaeh, Tizara and Lily. Our movie is based on Dora the Explorer but ours is called Lora The Maori Explorer. We had to create a whole script and plan before we start filming because we need to know what we will be doing so we don’t just go off and do random stuff. Have you made your own movie before with a classmate?

Wonder Project

In Te Ngahere yesterday two adults called Gustavo & Troy came into our classroom to teach us about something called Wonder Project. The reason why they came to our school was to teach us about the Wonder Project and science. The Wonder Project that our classroom is doing is science around rockets. Every Wednesdays in 7 weeks we get to have Gustavo & Troy helping us out. Yesterday was our first day learning about the Wonder Project. Thank you to Gustavo and Troy for joining our classroom yesterday, It was so amazing meeting them. It is very exciting that we get to make our own rockets. One thing I learned yesterday that I was surprised at was that there are red kiwi fruit in Kerikeri. I’ll do another blog post about the Wonder Project once I have created my rocket to share with you. Have you ever created a wonder project?

Te Reo Maori

In Te Ngahere we have been learning to recognise, understand and associated with games. So yesterday I had to get in a group of three because we all wanted to learn how to pronounce the words we got given correctly. Once we finished pronouncing the words we played a game of memory. So we got given printed paper with an image on it and words. After that we cut around them, mixed them around and placed them upside down. We all took turns but once we got a match we had to pronounce the word that matched the image and then say kia rite or rite tonu. The game kinda got a little bit boring so I went off with my teacher Whaea Chrissy and read a book called Nga Mahi Parakareka Kei te Marae which means fun at the marae. Do you like doing Te Reo Maori ?

Reflections

At the start of the week I started writing my own reflection about my learning this term. I learned how to write my own reflection. We had to write a self reflection by using a success criteria on a google docs. We had to do this because it saves our teachers time and gives them a little hint to write on our reports. In my reflection I said that setting goals this year really helps me because it keeps me focused on one thing instead of another goal I haven’t set yet. Every year I have been in Te Ngahere I have written a reflection for my yearly report. Do you have to write a little reflection about yourself? Here is a photo of my reflection I have written.

Poupou art

This week in Te Ngahere we have been doing art. I have been learning how to draw a poupou. A poupou is a taniwha that supports each hapu around a whare. In class we had to follow these steps on how to draw the poupou. Once we have drawn our poupou we then went on drawing something that our poupou could hold unless we chose to draw nothing for it to hold. We also had to draw patterns that relate to something about us or just draw random patterns. Then we got to pick coloured pastels to blend in on our poupou. I enjoy doing this art because I like to get creative and its fun. I have finished my practise art and already started my real copy but I just need to focus and not talk to people. Would you like to draw a poupou ? Here is a photo of my real copy.

Converting Fractions

In Te Ngahere we have been learning fractions. A couple of us were doing something else like converting fractions into percentages and decimals. We all worked as one group because it would be better for us to understand how to do it and finish it. We got given a piece of paper with a table that says fractions, decimals and percentages. What we have to do was figure out what fraction, decimal and percent it will be. Some parts of the table were filled in, we had to convert the fractions to fill in the rest. but the rest we have to write ourselfs. So say I got given a fraction like 5/10 The percent will be 50 because 10 x 10 = 100 and then 5 x 10 = 50. The decimal would be 0.5 because all you need to do is turn it around like swap the numbers around but just add a decimal point. Do you know how to do convert fractions ? Here are 2 videos that might help you how to convert fractions.

Trick Shot

Trick shot

In Te Ngahere we have been doing trick shots every week and this week we had to create a domino effect using everyday materials. For my domino effect I used a ping pong ball to bounce side to side on these black little table tops. Then it goes into a cup through the tunnel knocks the colored blocks and drops the other ping pong ball from off the top of the block. The way I came up with that plan was with a group and in my group I had a few friends call Mihipeka, Rymon and Dezray. What we did well was celebrating as a group because if we didn’t our plan wouldn’t come out as planned. My favorite part was the first part where the ping pong ball bounces side to side. Did you like out trick shot from this week ?

here is a video of our trick shot.

Scavenger hunt

Scavenger hunt

Today on the 20th of May most Te Ngahere students participated in a scavenger hunt around the school. In class we had to get into a group of 3 or 4. After that 1 person of each group went and got a paper filled with writing. The writing had eight objects that we had to find around the school. The eight objects that we had to find from off the paper is 3 different leafs, 2 things smooth, something brown, the highest building in this school, something yellow, something rough, something soft and to find a number placed somewhere in this school. In my group we cut the paper in half and split into 2 groups. Once we found everything we walked to the court, sat down and waited till the rest of the groups were done. Here is a photo of my group and I sitting next to our objectives. I reckon next time our teachers should give us more objects to find around the school to challenge ourselves. Would you like to join our scavenger hunt?

Self portraits

On the 16th Of april Te Ngahere students got to create self portraits. We got to make some cool digital art at home on our devices. What we had to do was add a photo of ourselves on a google drawing showing our hair, face and shoulders. Then we had to use scribble to draw around our head, neck, shoulders, mouth, nose and hair. Once we were done we had to delete our photo we added and add a bit more detail to the lines backgrounds and colour. Then as we finished we ended up with a cool creative art made by ourselves which was really cool. I really liked the finished product because it looks so like yourself with wonderful colours. I also didn’t care what my art looked like because it was my first go and I was giving it a go.

Summer learning journey

Summer learning journey
On the 15th of April some students in Te Ngahere had to pick a country to describe a country with some facts and had to say why they picked the country. The country I chosen was Japan Because I thought it was a safe place for visitors to go and to learn something different than New Zealand. Then I had to research on google 3 interesting facts about Japan and write down the ones I would prefer. The 3 facts I have chosen was Japan has more than 1500 earthquakes a year, Japan has the lowest worlds crime rates and in work your allowed to take fast naps. Then we had a bonus activity which you had to write a letter to someone about you going on a little holiday to the place you have chosen. Next time I’m going to challenge myself by doing most of the bonus activities because its extra work and fun.

Digital Dig

In Te Ngahere we have been working on a google side and completing sides by adding shortcuts to help us know how to work on our chromebook faster. I have learnt how to use a shortcut to take me to a side with all the shortcuts which is Ctrl Alt /. Next time I will be focusing on using my chromebook in a better way to help me work faster and finish things faster by using the shortcuts I learnt and already knew. I have created two DLO’s to share with you and help you with your chromebook.

The Tournament

Last week and this week our amazing teachers have organised a Turbo Touch tournament for our class. The students in my class we got to make our own groups by ourselves with the kids in our class. After that we made group names which is team Tokers, Champions, Crazy Horses, Seagulls and Cigars. My team is team Tokers with 8 players. Last week we came a tie with Crazy horses, when our teacher counted the points up together. This week we won the tournament with 8 points on our first game against Champions also with 4 points against Crazy Horses. Thank you teachers for organising something this cool for us. Have a great and wonderful day.

Basic Facts

In Te Ngahere we have been practising our basic facts every day. I am learning my divisions because I have already finished my multiplication. I really enjoy doing my basic facts because it's something different to do than reading and writing. I only have 5 sets of divisions left which are my 6s, 7’s, 8’s, and my 9 divisions. I will be adding a chart of my division basic facts down below. Thank you for using your own time to read my post.

Technology

Last week Wednesday The year 7 & 8’s started our first day of technology at Moerewa School. The year 7’s did woodwork and the year 8’s did cooking. I was in cooking and we made Frittatas which was yum. It was my first time learning how to make Frittatas and I enjoyed eating them because they were so good. We started by chopping up all the the vegetables and then we put some eggs in a pot with flour and cooked up the bacon. We mixed spinach, potatoes and pumpkins all together with the eggs and flour. Then we put them in a dish and baked them in the oven. This term I’m in cooking class and term 2 I would be doing woodwork. I really can’t wait.

New Game

On our second day in Te Ngahere we learnt this new game from our new teacher Whaea Shanna and this game is called Turbo Touch. I learnt that the game you can pass the ball in any direction. I enjoyed going against different teams from my class so I know what I can work on next which is how to pass different.

How you play turbo touch, you always start with the ball in the middle of the field, you start the game by touching the ball to your foot. The active zone is only open after two passes have been done or a intercept from the other team that has already passed the ball twice, The active zone is where you place the ball down its called a try. The next rule is that if anyone gets touched in you team twice when they are running with the ball then its a handover. On defence you have to be 2 meters away and on attack you can only hold the ball for 2 seconds because if its past 2 seconds it would be hand over.

Rules
