Script for our Technology

Kia ora everybody. In Te Ngahere we have been learning to write a script for our technology. I enjoyed writing my script. I think I could do better by going with my group and seeing if they agree with my script and if it’s ok. In class the year 6’s did a quiz on what we can ask or do in our script while the year 7 and 8s were making a smoothie with Whaea Gina.

Healthy Takesaways

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about bad takeaways and healthy takeaways with Whaea Gina. The healthy takeaways are sushi and Subway. The unhealthy takeaways are Burger King, Wendy’s, Carl’s Jr, KFC and Mcdonald's. Whaea Gina told us that if their is white around your heart you will have an unhealthy heart because the white part is fat and if you have a healthy heart you will still need fat on your heart to protect it. You can use this information in the future to have a healthy heart or to protect yourself.

Cross County

On 6th of September Paihia School had cross country at Bledisloe Domain. We had a pretty good track. The little kids had to go first and the track got harder and harder as ages went up. What I liked doing at cross country was running with the little kids. When it got to my race I just ran with my friends. I felt happy that I came 2nd. I didn’t really care that I didn’t come first.

A Problem About Gaming

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about how many kids in Te Ngahere play online games. We had to fill out a form that had different questions like how many kids think about gaming while they are offline? How many people lie to their parents about gaming? And more. We had to be brutally honest. We had a big korero about gaming and how it can cause dementia, obesity, poor grades and depression.
We had lots of ideas and thoughts about gaming and it really opened our minds!

Beeswax Wraps

In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to make beeswax wraps in class. After morning tea we got a piece of fabric to color, write or draw on. Then we took it to the whare kai and dipped it in wax. I grabbed mine and held it over cardboard. I think I did well by doing a good design on my fabric. I enjoyed writing on my fabric with some color. I wrote my friends names on it like Keekee, Boombe, Stilly, Missy, Payton, Mihi, Fonz, Lesane, Ezra, Izaiah, Tarquinn, Kiana and Saff. We made beeswax wraps to save plastic.

Technology

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about how to make a shelf out of pallets to sell for our next term camp. We don’t know where we are going but I’m sure it’s going to be fun. We had 4 pieces of wood and cut them in half with a saw. After that we cleaned the wood with the belt sander and the orbeltool sander. Then we didn’t get to finish it but the next day we will. Here is our plan down below.

Year 7s and 8s 7s Tournament

On Tuesday some year 8s, 7s and 6s went to Moerewa to play a 7s rugby tournament. We played Kerikeri, Kaingaroa and Okaihau. Also there were other teams like Kawakawa and Kaikohe. It was a year 8s and 7s tournament but Isaiah S and I were very lucky to go because we are the only year 6s that went. We had three games. We won 1 game and lost the other two games. The funnest thing that happened at the tournament was that we had lollies.

Whaea Gina

Te Ngahere has been learning how to eat healthy.  Whaea Gina came to our school and talked to us about how much sugar is in different types of drinks like Mother, V, Powerade, coke, water, chocolate milk and juices. There was colors that you have to put the right drink on. The colors were green, orange and red. Green means every day, orange means every week and red means every month.  Water went on green, then coke went on red and chocolate milk went on orange. The highest limit of sugar that we should have is 5 teaspoons. What I could do better to become healthier is eat less sugar. What I learnt from Whaea Gina was how many teaspoons of sugar are in each drink and how to stay healthy.

Maths Goals

In Te Ngahere we have been creating maths goals. We have been learning to set new goals to focus on this term. I think I did well at setting the right goals and I enjoyed making the writing fancy and the background. I think I could dos better at achieving some of them for this term. We had to pick 1 algebra goal, 2 knowledge goals and 2 addition and subtraction.

Maramaku sports day

Last Friday I went to Maramaku sports day. I was in the 5&6 year group for rugby. We won all our games apart from we lost one game by one point. All of us were so so excited that we thought we were in the finals. I had a very hard time because my muscles were tired the next day. But it was an awesome day. My best part was getting my smoothie mixed up on the bike.

Brad and Stella

In Te Ngahere we had visitors that came to our class and talked about a way we can start saving our native, endemic and introduced birds, Their names are Brad and Stella and they came from Bay Bush Action. We got some rat traps from Brad and Stella to set up some at our school because  their are to much rats and the rats are killing our native birds. We learnt how to protect our native animals. I enjoyed watching the Bay Bush Action video on YouTube. It was very funny and interesting.

Food Chain

In Te Ngahere we have been working on our animation about food chains. We have been learning about how food chains work. I think I did well at writing the steps and I enjoyed re watching our animation and checking if we did it correctly. Next time I think I can talk louder when I present the animation.

Anyah is

This is my draft copy:In Te Ngahere we have been using metaphors in our writing. We were using this to make a poem about ourselves. I did well at describing myself and I enjoyed re reading some of metaphors that I wrote about myself. I think I could do better at fixing some of the metaphors. It was a challenging because we couldn't use because or I. but instead we had to write Anyah is...

We were using this to make a poem about ourselves

My Pepeha

In the past few weeks Te Ngahere has been learning how to say their pepeha confidently. I did my pepeha on a powtoon because it is more creative. On my pepeha I think I did well at writing maori words correctly. I enjoyed sharing my pepeha to Payton and Isaiah M to get more feedback. Next time I think I can do better at explaining more about myself. A pepeha is a thing that you support your family in. On your pepeha you should add your mama, papa, maunga, hapu, iwi, maere, waka and ingoa.
